An evening marking the centenary of Muhammadjon Shakuri (1925/6–2012), a distinguished scholar, philologist, literary critic, member of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and of Iran’s Academy of Persian Language and Literature, and one of the founders of modern Tajik culture. Bringing together speakers who knew him personally, the gathering offers a broader reflection on the intellectual and cultural history of twentieth-century Tajikistan through talks, poetry, and film.
